Causes of Vibration in Robot Axes

  • Encoder Communication Errors: Absolute encoders in the joints may have dead batteries or cables broken from flexing. This causes the drive to misread the angle, leading to vibration (hunting).
  • Drive (Amplifier) Fatigue: Power modules of the servo drive inside the controller cabinet may lose capacity due to heat. The drive cannot supply enough current for fast movements.
  • Mechanical Backlash: Wear in the gearbox gears causes the robotic arm to shake a few millimeters even when the motor stops.
